Hawaii Vacation
Hamakua this area is on the north-eastern tip of the island, just around the corner from Kohala, and ranks among the most spectacular sites on the island. The Waipio Valley is the tropical version of the Grand Canyon, and there are abundant hiking trails, waterfalls and nature areas to explore.
Hilo on the eastern side of the island, Hilo only receives about 10 inches of rain a year, and boasts a slower pace of life and a small-town charm. Unique shops and friendly atmosphere make your visit a total pleasure.
North Kona Probably the most popular part of the island, with a bustling recreational calendar and almost every sort of entertainment you could possibly want. Fine dining, world class resorts, but with a unique charm all its own.
South Kona Kona coffee farms, historic Honaunau and Kealakekua Bays, hiking, swimming, kayaking yet close enough to North Kona to come play all day and all night.
Mountain View located between Hilo and Volcanoes National Park, this lovely area offers a cool elevation with views from the mountains to lush rainforests.
Volcano on the eastern side of the island, this unique and eerily beautiful portion of the island features up-close-and-personal views of the Kilauea volcano, a museum, visitors center, restaurants and shops. Not to be missed.
Puna East of Volcano, this is the Hawaii of everyones dreams lush, green and breathtaking. Lava Tree State Park and black sand beaches make for a spectacular visit.
Kau located on the southern tip of the island, Kau is famous for black and green sand beaches, sea turtles and South Point the southernmost point in the U.S. This is a great place to centrally locate to tour the whole island.

NAMAKANI PAIO DRIVE-IN CAMPGROUND (Campsites/cabins)
Located at the 4,000-foot elevation on the eastern slope of Mauna Loa. Tent camping and cabins. Self-contained mobile campers permitted. Maximum stay of 7 nights allowed. Note: Volcano House (park concessionaire) operates cabins at the campground. To make cabin reservations, please contact Volcano House (see below). Facilities include pavilion with fireplace (bring your own firewood), picnic tables, barbecue grills, drinking water, restrooms, pay phone.
KULANAOKUAIKI DRIVE-IN CAMPGROUND (Campsites)
Located at the 2,700-foot elevation. Eight walk-in campsites. Some sites are wheelchair accessible. Self-contained mobile campers permitted. Maximum stay of 7 nights allowed. Facilities include barbecue grills, a vault-type toilet (no running water), and picnic tables. There is no water at this location.

Ten rustic cabins (4 persons max. per cabin) at the above Namakani Paio drive-In campground. Reservations are recommended, permits are not required.

The parks backcountry campsites and cabins are all at remote wilderness locations reachable only via hiking trails. All have a maximum stay of 3 consecutive nights. No pets or fires allowed.
